ORGANIZATION:
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) – Lausanne

Background and Context

Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.  Also known as YWAM, our calling is to know God and to make Him known.  Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth into short-term mission work and to give them opportunities to reach out in Jesus’ name.  Today we still focus on youth, and we also involve people of almost every age (even many people who choose to spend their “retirement: in active service).  Our many ministries fit into three main categories:  evangelism, training, and mercy ministry.  We are currently operating in more than 1,000 locations in over 149 countries, with a staff of nearly 16,000.

Executive Summary

YWAM Lausanne is the first training center which was pioneered in the early 1970’s by YWAM Founders, Loren and Darlene Cunningham.  Today YWAM has close to 500 centers worldwide where young people are equipped for life and ministry.  The uniqueness and strength of the first centre is the equipping of so many young leaders and releasing them with vision to impact the nations.

YWAM Lausanne is a place where new initiatives are taken and an aspect of the organization’s global leadership is based.  The programs and community life have outgrown the current facilities.

New land was acquired in the spring of 2007, which will be developed to include staff and student housing (for singles, couples, and families); visitor accommodations; classrooms; auditorium; cafeteria and kitchen; preschool and playground facilities; office space; and a sports area and gymnasium.

The project will be built in phases to keep pace with the growth of staff, students, leadership, administration, and with a vision towards the capacity to sustain the growth throughout the process of building and development.

Once all development is complete, YWAM Lausanne’s facilities will be better suited to establish new courses and degree programs to focus on business, education, and communication, and broaden existing programs as well, which will fuel the desire for enrollment among students wishing to come to Lausanne.

Expected Results / Outcomes

YWAM Lausanne will create more facilities for student and staff housing, classrooms, and a large meeting space.  The land which was acquired in April 2007 will allow creation of a training facility for 500 people.  The new facilities will serve the vision of YWAM Lausanne and empower the growth and multiplication of our efforts in this region of the world.

The goal is to develop the property to a more complete campus, and an ideal learning environment for up to 300 students at a time, as well as serve as a home for many ministries and new initiatives.
